Eagle Rock on Colorado Boulevard.

Eagle Rock’s commercial corridor runs under a row of 60-year-old camphor and ficus. Three picks for the Northeast LA neighborhood that survived gentrification.

By

Eagle Rock’s Colorado Boulevard is anomalous for LA — six blocks of mid-century low-rise commercial under continuous camphor + ficus canopy, with the trees dense enough to dim direct sun at noon. The cross streets (Maywood, Townsend, Caspar) cool further thanks to the residential canopy that pours over the property lines.

These picks stay in the canopy zone. We avoid Yosemite Drive’s open block during midday and route you back via the residential cut-through.
