Silver Lake, in the reservoir’s breeze.

Silver Lake is hilly and exposed. But the reservoir’s east bank has wind, jacaranda, and a row of pre-war apartments throwing long shadows. Three picks that find the cool half.

By

Silver Lake’s reservoir does two things for the surrounding blocks: it cools the air a degree or two via evaporation, and it pulls the prevailing west wind across the basin on summer afternoons. The east bank (Silver Lake Boulevard) gets all the benefit; the west bank (West Silver Lake Drive) gets full afternoon sun against the hill.

These three pick the east side and the jacaranda streets above it (Lyric, Rowena’s western edge). Stay Cool routes you around the dog park during midday — full sun, no canopy.
