Subscriptions and billing

How do I cancel my Pro subscription?

On iPhone or iPad: open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Stay Cool, then tap Cancel Subscription. Your Pro features stay active until the end of the current billing period.

On the web or Android: open the Stay Cool app or website, go to Profile → Manage subscription, then follow the Stripe portal to cancel or update your payment method.

I was charged but Pro features didn’t unlock.

Open the app, go to Profile → Restore purchases. If that doesn’t resolve it within a minute, email support@walkintheshade.com with your receipt or the Apple/Stripe email confirmation and we’ll sort it manually.

Can I get a refund?

App Store purchases are refunded by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. For web/Stripe subscriptions, email us and we’ll handle it directly.

What does Pro include?

Saved routes, walk history, ad-free experience, Live Activities and Lock-Screen widgets on iOS, daily commute push notifications, and shareable walk pages. The free tier always includes route calculation and navigation.

Routes and shade scores

My route doesn’t look as shaded as the score suggests.

Shade scores are calculated from OpenStreetMap building footprints, sun position, and cloud cover. Trees, awnings, and unmapped structures aren’t counted, so real-world shade can differ. Scores are most accurate in dense urban areas and least accurate in parks and residential blocks with heavy tree cover.

A street is missing from my route.

We route on OpenStreetMap pedestrian data. If a sidewalk or shortcut is missing, it’s usually missing from OSM as well. You can add it to OSM and we’ll pick it up on our next data refresh.

Why is my city marked as “limited coverage”?

Some cities have sparse building data in OSM, which makes shade estimation less reliable. We show a coverage indicator so you know when to trust the score. Coverage improves as OSM data improves.

App and account

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Profile → Delete account. Or email support@walkintheshade.com with the address you signed up with. Deletion is permanent and removes your saved walks, profile, and authentication record.

The app crashes or won’t open.

Force-quit and reopen first. If that doesn’t work: delete and reinstall (your account and Pro status are restored on sign-in). Still broken? Email us with your device model, iOS or Android version, and what you were doing when it happened — a screenshot helps a lot.

Push notifications aren’t arriving.

Check that notifications are enabled for Stay Cool in your phone settings, and that Profile → Morning push is on. Notifications arrive ~6 AM local time on days when a meaningful shade-vs-sun tradeoff applies to your commute.

Privacy and data

What data does Stay Cool collect?

Account email, saved routes you create, walk completion stats, and (with permission) approximate location while routing and HealthKit step data for the AmbientShade feature. We never sell data. Full details in our Privacy Policy.

Email privacy@walkintheshade.com for data access, correction, or export requests. We respond within 30 days.

Send a short note to support@walkintheshade.com. Helpful details: what you expected, what happened instead, your device + OS, and (for routing issues) the from/to address. Feature requests welcome — we read all of them.
