Pike Place, down the hillclimb.

The market is a multi-level building disguised as a neighborhood — arcades above, hillclimb stairs below, and the new waterfront park at the bottom. Three picks that never leave cover.

By

Pike Place Market is functionally a covered village: the Main Arcade’s roof runs the length of the market, the DownUnder levels are fully interior, and the hillclimb stairs descend to the waterfront through a stack of shaded landings. On the rare hot Seattle afternoon, you can get from First Avenue to the aquarium without meaningful sun.

The new Overlook Walk extends the covered path to the rebuilt waterfront park. These picks run the vertical circuit.
