DIFC is an experiment in vertical urbanism: the road-level pavement is hot enough to fry meat by 1 PM in July, but the second-floor podium that connects every Gate building is shaded by the tower overhangs above it. From the Gate Avenue to the Sky Walk to the Index Tower link, the covered path runs almost three quarters of a kilometer without breaking.
These three use that elevated network. The Gate Building basement is the cool option on the worst days (it connects to the Financial Centre metro); the second-floor option works in March through May or after 6 PM in summer.
