Park Slope on 7th, slowly.

Park Slope’s 7th Avenue is the long shaded commercial spine of the neighborhood. The brownstone canopy on the cross streets is the supporting cast. Three picks for an unhurried Saturday.

By

Park Slope’s 7th Avenue runs 20 blocks of low-rise commercial with mature London plane canopy and awning patios on both sides. The cross streets (the named ones — Garfield, 1st Street, Lincoln Place) are brownstone canyons with a full plane-and-magnolia canopy that meets overhead. By 2 PM in July, walking from Grand Army Plaza to 9th Street under continuous canopy is genuinely possible.

These picks build that walk in three legs. The 5th Avenue strip is hotter (less canopy, less awning); we avoid it during peak sun.
